Setup the different expenditure types with how much you have budgeted, IE: $300 for groceries. Then when you add a purchase, you can see how much balance in that expenditure type you have left.
If you ever need to "add money back", just enter a negative expenditure, IE: "refund from dinner", "-25.50"
